Foods That Were Once Considered Healthy That You Should Avoid

Health foods change overtime. That is something that people do not always want to hear, but it is true. There are many foods on the market today that were once considered to be the quintessential health food, that have now proven otherwise. Here are some of the most common foods that were once healthy that you should avoid.

Milk

One of the staple foods in most kitchens is milk. We use it with breakfast, in cooking, and just as a quick drink before bed. However, milk is not as healthy as one might think. Before the 1930s, milk was the most readily available drink to farmers and most average people. Children of this time had severe cases of rickets caused by inadequate Vitamin D intake. The United States government decided to step in and fortify milk with Vitamin D to help alleviate the problem. It worked, but since that time, milk has been pushed on people of all ages as a healthy drink.

On average about 40 million Americans are now considered Lactose intolerant and must avoid milk products leading to many healthy milk alternatives. Flax milk, oat milk, and soy milk are great alternatives to those that have a nut allergy and almond milk, cashew milk, or macadamia milk are excellent for those that do not have that sensitive allergy.

Breakfast Cereals

The year was 1894 when the first breakfast cereal, corn flakes, was invented, quite by accident. The notion of breakfast cereals started out with good intentions. They were a way to get healthy grains into the body quickly to begin the day, but soon, the average taste began to sour on the ever increasingly sweet tongue of consumers. To adjust, cereal companies began introducing more and more of the sweet stuff into the mix. Today’s average cereal is little more than a cavity producing fountain of sugar with little to no actual health qualities.

Yogurt

Yogurt today is pushed on people as a health food due to its probiotic abilities. However, some side effects of yogurt intake include kidney stones, negative interactions with medications, and weight gain. Even though you get your probiotics, you can be doing more damage to your body. Some non-dairy probiotic options to replace yogurt are, pickled vegetables, Kombucha tea, and fermented soy products such as tempeh and miso.

Know How Your Food is Processed

Eating healthy is the goal of many of us these days and with that said, it is time to take these three unhealthy food options away from our diets. Healthy alternatives made from soy and fresh fruits and vegetables are much better. What is even better than that is looking into how your food is being processed.

Gentle Processing™ is becoming a leader in the processing industry. Unlike other processing measures that deteriorate the natural healthy attributes of fruits, vegetables, grains, and other foods, Gentle Processing™ utilizes a revolutionary processing measure that maintains optimal nutrients in all foods processed through our system.
